America is known for its inspiring stories of heroism and perseverance. But recently, I find myself overwhelmed by the stories that demonstrate the degree of disparity on economic, life and death issues in our country. My mother told me 'if you don't have anything good to say - just hush'. So I often chose to 'hush' on social media when I didn't have anything good to say.
I do use my voice inside my circle of influence. I also take every opportunity to help people individually and collectively to move their careers forward. But now it's time. It's time for me to break my silence about the ideas I have to start new conversations on race at work. It is also time to break the silence in our workplaces where we pretend not to experience an important element of our humanity.
My credentials make me a subject matter expert. My passion makes this my life purpose. I don't profess to have all of the answers, but I offer my book Listen In: Crucial Conversations on Race in the Workplace, as a starting place to ask some new questions. I hope you join the conversation and more importantly, take action. #ListenIn #BlackTalentMatters
